Welcome to VIZeBooks’ official blog – a blog that will inform, inspire and, we trust, engage our readers.
Illustrated books are rapidly moving from their niche, thanks to the constant evolvement of technology. Whereas this type of book were invaluable but largely misunderstood when in 2D, once online, they’re more easily appreciated, melding effortlessly into design and graphic projects.
The woman behind VIZeBooks, a successful author of visual books, Angela Patchell, knows from her own experience how artists can become passionate about the array of fonts, graphics and colour combinations available, and how they can spark a multitude of designs and ideas.
Her book, Vintage Style Graphics, is just one of her bestsellers, coming from the same series as titles such as Retro Style Graphics. Angela says, “I created Vintage Style Graphics as I love the New Vintage Style. I think the eclectic mix of old and new vintage and the consequential clashes of colours, fonts and styles conjure up fascinating concepts and designs.”
“The Victorian era was overtly opulent and vivid in a time of poverty and reserve, which resonates with our current economic climate today. Clear examples of vintage graphics as an art form can be found in Lorenzo Petrantoni’s work, some of which he generously allowed to be included in the book.”
“The book has been very popular and is a firm favourite with designers. Vintage Style Graphics is on its second print run and has also been translated into Japanese, who are firm fans.”
Vintage Style Graphics comes with free examples to download and incorporate, alongside hundreds of ideas to try within your own concepts.
But should we hanker after yesteryear? With new graphics constantly being created, should designers embrace the new or cling to what has been before, or should we strive to strike a happy balance?
Whatever your view, there’s no doubt that the Victorians could be ostentatious. Be equally as outlandish with your designs.
VIZeBooks was created by Angela Patchell (Angela Patchell Books). As a visual art book publisher, she felt there was no suitable platform catering for visual / illustrated books and therefore decided to create a concept specifically to represent them.
Visual people, and those that buy visual books, look for interaction – with the view to using visual content in their own creations. VIZeBooks has achieved this with features such as high quality zoom and the various enhancements in their unique palette box.
VIZeBooks and Angela Patchell Books each have 100s of FREE graphic elements. This community blog aims to not only show you how to best use the site, but also, how visual books can be used in your career. We’re here to answer any questions you may have and we’ll also bring you interviews with our visual authors and other interesting topics.
This blog is for everyone, therefore, we encourage interaction and hope you’ll let us know your thoughts and offer your feedback. We look forward to hearing from you!
Our Mission
Publishers and authors are increasingly turning to eBooks as the format for their work, but as each title is created it faces being a mere drop in the digital ocean. Technology exists to turn books into a digital format, but there seems little way to promote them.
How readers can find individual eBooks
VIZeBooks’ solution to this ‘needle in a haystack’ problem is the creation of individual ebook ‘indie’ stores for each genre. With each store tailored to readers’ interests, focus is firmly back in its rightful camp — with the reader.
Publishers with many genres can, through the software, segregate titles and genres, making each a niche store in its own right, adding quality to an existing imprints brand.
Individual titles are promoted through integrated social media, which targets their relevant section of the market through social networking strategies and databases – collectively making each product infinitely more accessible. Niche markets can positively thrive in their own online worlds.
The eBookstore with integrated eReader
VIZeBooks’ integrated eReader uses PDFs — a benefit to any user as there are no ebook conversion costs. Each PDF is of a high-resolution zoom quality, and because pages are locked into the application, they are totally secure. VIZeBooks doesn’t compare to anything else on the market; instead, their trail-blazing application makes initial eBooks seem outdated and brings a totally new concept to the reader.
With VIZeBooks, no visual book or fiction tale is a 2D finished article. Their application software seamlessly melds each written production with images, videos, social media platforms, company branding and any other complimentary materials available, as supplements to the original work. These supplements are simply added into a palette/tool box as extra dimensions, in a zip file; the application’s practical layout makes using them instinctive and intuitive.
How VIZeBooks engages readers
Overhauling how books are enjoyed, the VIZeBooks’ application allows users and communities to engage and participate with what they’re reading — even to the extent of adding their own material, examples or passages. Any ebook, effectively, has the potential, through VIZeBooks, to constantly evolve, allowing new authors and artists to attract attention in markets that are usually difficult to penetrate.
Educational books or manuals become online tutorials, fiction becomes reality and visual books turn into interactive projects. Consumers currently buy visual books to absorb information in a more practical way than those in plain text; VIZeBooks takes this ethos one step further.
How VIZeBooks can be monetised
Publishers can revitalise their entire catalogue at very little cost, producing a profitable income. Potential markets will open up and existing ones will widen due to VIZeBooks’ simple-to-adopt e-reader technology. Ebooks enjoy a global market with no territories, which is one of the factors of their success. VIZeBooks is the first visual books platform to wholly and effectively encapsulate eBooks alongside social media and digital enhancements.
The licence holder can continue licensing the software by simply rebranding the Application to suit their client’s ‘niche’ audience. They can charge a yearly licence fee, a production fee for rebranding and a royalty from the sale of each book.
A co-edition publisher, whose business includes the selling of rights, could capitalise VIZeBooks by licensing the software to their long- term, co-edition publishing partners. A country-known publisher can globalise their brand by building a niche audience, using VIZeBooks’ integrated social networking strategies and databases.
VIZeBooks’ eBookstore, with integrated eReader, works across all formats with its Touch and Click versions. The click version works online, therefore cutting out Apples’ 30% fee.http://www.vizebooks.com/mission
